This spectacular piece depicting both beauty and tranquility was inspired by a lead stag which resides in the grounds of Bowood House in Wiltshire, England. The Stag is one of a pair which takes pride of place on the steps leading from the formal gardens to the Orangery. The beautiful gardens were laid out by Capability Brown. The use of faux bronze for the antlers provides a pleasing contrast against the warm coloration of the stag’s body which is of reconstituted Somerset stone composition. Bowood House was purchased by the 1st Earl of Shelburne in 1754, and to this day, Bowood House remains the family home of his descendants. Currently the home of the 9th Marquis and Marchioness of Lansdowne.
